A Proposal

for Laurie

Let's you and I go walking.
I promise to match my pace to yours
this time, not rush ahead
impatiently, nor keep talking
so we miss the colors and the flowers
and the sound of birds.

We'll stroll down to the corner,
and I'll say, "Which way now?"
And then you'll take my hand
eagerly and say, "This way!"
And I'll follow you.

Well, that's how I imagine it,
but that's just me.
